Aspect vs Tense: The Temporal Dimensions
Tense tells you when an action happens on the calendar (Past, Present, Future). Aspect tells you how the action unfolds: is it a closed photograph, an ongoing movie, or a repeated habit?
1. Perfective Aspect (The Camera Snapshot)
Views the action from the outside as a completed, closed event with clear endpoints.
๐ช๐ธ Ayer lloviรณ. (Yesterday it rained - start and finish completed.) 2. Imperfective / Continuous Aspect (The Rolling Video)
Views the action from the inside as it was in progress, with no attention to its beginning or conclusion.
๐ช๐ธ Llovรญa cuando salรญ. (It was raining when I left.) 3. Habitual / Iterative Aspect (The Repetitive Loop)
Describes routines and recurring actions that occur repeatedly over a period of time.
๐ช๐ธ De niรฑo, comรญa helado todos los domingos. (I used to eat ice cream every Sunday.) 4. Inchoative / Inceptive Aspect (The Ignition Point)
Focuses exclusively on the exact starting moment or transition into a new state.
๐ช๐ธ Se puso a llorar / Empezรณ a llover. (She burst into tears / It started raining.)
